Foreigner in Japan
The Japan Immigration Services Agency shares the current status of foreigners residing in Japan through press releases.
Let’s take a look at the current status of foreigners residing in Japan and the distribution of status of residence. This material is explained by referring to the materials of the Immigration Services Agency. The original can be found here.
By Nationality/Region
中国:China
ベトナム:Vietnam
韓国:South Korea
Only the top three countries and total number are listed. In the original data, 10 countries (China / Vietnam / Korea / Philippines / Brazil / Nepal / Indonesia / USA / Thailand / Taiwan + others) are listed.
As of the end of June 2022, there are approximately 3 million foreign residents in Japan. If you look at it, you can see that it has been steadily increasing until 2019 but decreasing from 2020 to 2021 possibly because of COVID-19.
Over 2 years, million people Chinese and about 40,000 people Korean left Japan… A several my friends also returned South Korea during this period, however, Vietnam had been increased. It increased overall from 2022 and is expected to increase further in 2023.
The number of Vietnamese exceed that of Korean.
Gender ratio
男性:Male
女性:Female
The gender ratio shows almost 50:50, but slightly more females. However, compared to the previous year, male increased more 2.1 percentage points than female, so it seems that it will become more and more similar.
By Status of Residence
永住者 : permanent resident
技能実習 : technical intern training
技術・人文知識・国際業務 : Work Visa(Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services)
Among the status of residence, the largest share was 28.6% of permanent residents. Those who have lived in Japan for a long time tend to become permanent residents, and the rate seems to be the highest among all age groups. (The spouse of a permanent resident is treated as a different visa)
Following that are technical intern training, work visa(Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services) , special permanent resident, and student.
.
Status of Residence by Nationality/Region
check the status of residence by top 3 countries and total countries…
The distribution of residence status differs slightly by country. For Korean, there is no “technical intern traning” residence status at all, and instead, special permanent residents (Koreans in Japan) account for more than half.
For Chinese, about 40% are permanent residents, and most of them are work visas and student. In Vietnam, technical training, work visas, and specific activities account for most of them.
By prefecture
The regions where have most population of foreigners with a status of residence reside in Japan are Tokyo, Aichi Prefecture, and Osaka Prefecture, in that order. If you check the greater tokyo (add Kanagawa Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture, and Chiba Prefecture,) you can see that about 40% of foreign residents live in the greater tokyo area.
It seems that there is a lot of technical intern training / work visa / study as corona is mitigated.. This year, it is expected to increase even more.
If new data comes out this year, will also write the data of June 2023.
