Why I decide to Japan
After graduating from the Department of Electronic Communications Engineering in Korea, I started working as a technology investment manager for a well-known large company in Korea, although it is not a huge one. While working for about a year, I got in touch with foreign and Japanese companies, and I was interested in working in a foreign language. So wanted to move to work abroad in 20’s. If I get older, it should be more difficult to decide.
Useful Sites in Korea
The site I used most at the time was World Job (https://www.worldjob.or.kr/new_index.do) . It gave me various information and get overseas settlement funds. At that time, it was about 2 million KRW. My colleagues told me fund amout has been increased!
In addition to World Job, I participated in KOTRA’s job fair (https://www.kotrajapanjobfair.com/) and had several on-site interviews. As for the following interviews, I received several interview offers in Japan. In my case, since I was a science and engineering major, need to visit many place in Japan : Toyama, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka. Looking back, I had about 1 year of experience, was not “technically” new grads, so it seems that I failed many places that hire “fresh” talent. but, on the contrary, I got a lot of calls from foreign companies who prefer to have work experience.
The good thing is that the company provided flight tickets and supported interview/transportation expenses. I moved using an airline ticket given by the compnay and a JR Pass. During the interview schedule, there was also a career forum event in Tokyo (https://careerforum.net/ja/), so I participated. There are also various companies here, especially foreign companies.
Some interview experiences
Write down some interview experiences.
- Semiconductor company in Toyama
I arrived the day before and stayed at the dormitory for one night. It was interesting because the inside of the dormitory felt like a business hotel. after the interview, the company provided fresh Sushi! was so delicious😋
- Electronics company in Kanagawa
Overall, the impresison was very good. It was the largest company I’ve ever interviewed for, and the interview comensation was very high.
- Shipbuilding companies in Osaka
At the time, my TOEIC score was slightly over 800, but I was a bit surprised when interviewer told that I had sufficient English skills that they demanded. In Korea, it was a normal level by the standards of the time.. However, I wrote my resume with a ballpoint pen that can be erased.. that was my mistakes.. It seems that this became a problem and failed.
Final acceptance
In the end, I received an offer letter from a foreign company in CFN. What surprised me was that at the CFN site, he was dressed like neighborhood man with half-pants / shirts but suit during interview!. It was my first shock at a foreign company. The salary also increased alot . Next, I will post about Visa and the first company.
